In the late Middle Ages, the Black Plague devoured half the population of Europe, arriving in Norway via a “ghost ship” that was entirely unmanned. After the pestilence burned itself out, stories emerged about seemingly-otherworldly lone-survivors, including one made so feral by her long abandonment, she was called Rype, or “wild bird”. We remember the fleas and the rats, even her name, but we don’t remember everything. What if there were more to the stories of the past than we ever imagined?
